BIOGRAPHY
Isabella Rossellini grew up in Paris and Rome. At the age of 19, she moved to New York, working as a translator and journalist for RAI-Italian Television. She began her modelling career at the age of 28, appearing on numerous magazine covers such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair.
A timeless style icon, Isabella Rossellini became Lancôme’s exclusive muse in 1982 and remained so for 14 years. It was only at the age of 40 that her contract was not renewed. Isabella then launched her own cosmetics brand, Manifesto, in 2016. Lancôme then called on her again as a spokesperson to fight against ‘ageism’. Isabella Rossellini made her film debut as an actress in 1979 in the Taviani brothers’ film Il Prato (The Meadow) and has appeared in numerous other films since then, including the American feature films Blue Velvet, White Nights, Rodger Dodger, Cousins, Death Becomes Elle, Fearless, Big Night and, last year, Joy. She has worked with many different directors, including Robert Zemeckis, David O. Russell, David Lynch, Robert Wilson, Taylor Hackford, Marjane Satrapi and Guy Maddin.
She is also a successful television actress and filmmaker, and has a keen interest in animals and wildlife conservation. Her award-winning series of short films Green Porno, Seduce Me and Mammas offers comical and scientifically insightful studies of animal behaviour. She has also toured more than 50 cities on three different continents (America, Europe and Australia) with her theatrical monologues. Isabella holds a master’s degree in animal behaviour and conservation from Hunter College in New York and has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Science at UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal). Most recently, she has been working for television on Master of Photography for the European broadcaster SKY and the American series Shut Eye, which was released in December 2016 on the HULU platform. She is currently filming for the HBO series Julia. A philanthropist, Isabella Rossellini works to preserve her family’s extraordinary film heritage, including films directed by her father, Roberto Rossellini, about whom she has written, and those starring her mother, Ingrid Bergman.
