Lumière !
presented on stage scène by
Thierry Frémaux
A montage of 98 restored films made by Louis Lumière and his operators between
1895 and 1905 (1:15, B&W)
In 1895, the Lumière brothers invent the Cinematograph and shoot some of the very first films in cinema history: Leaving the Factory, The Gardener… Staging, traveling, even special effects and remakes- they also invent the art of filming!
This montage contains nearly 100 films, from world-famous masterpieces to little known gems, restored in 4K to honor the legacy inherited from the Lumière: unforgettable images and a glimpse of France and the world at the dawn of the 20th century.
The film Lumière! includes commentary by Thierry Frémaux, General Director of the Institut Lumière and General Delegate Director of the Cannes Film Festival.
Restoration led by the Institut Lumière (Lyon) and carried out by the Eclair Group (Paris)
in collaboration with the CNC (Paris), the Cinémathèque française (Paris) as well as the
Immagine Ritrovata (Bologna).
With the support of the Total Foundation as part of its partnership with the Heritage
Foundation.
